Atlanta Allergy & Asthma News

May is “National Asthma & Allergy Awareness Month.” It’s peak season for asthma and allergy sufferers, which makes this a perfect time to educate patients, friends, family, and co-workers about these diseases.

Approximately 60 million Americans suffer from allergies or asthma. Often, the public does not understand the seriousness of these diseases and the impact they have on people's lives. Many do not recognize the connection they have to one another.

At least 80% of children and 50-60% of adults diagnosed with asthma have allergies that trigger their symptoms. It is critical to identify your asthma triggers and develop an asthma maintenance plan. Asthma is a chronic condition, so scheduling consistent follow-up visits with an allergy and asthma specialist will allow proper control of your disease and will also help prevent progression. Together, you and your allergist will work to ensure that asthma does not interfere with your daily life.

While most people know that allergists treat allergic conditions, not everyone is aware allergists are the specialists trained to identify asthma and the underlying triggers. At Atlanta Allergy & Asthma, our specially trained physicians are dedicated to providing state-of-the-art, quality care to our patients with allergic diseases and asthma. Our practice is committed to raising awareness, providing education, and participating in research to continue developing new therapies that will benefit all patients with asthma and allergies.
