We are pleased to welcome Charmi D. Patel, M.D. to the practice. Dr. Patel, a board-certified allergist, will join the practice in September and see patients at Atlanta Allergy & Asthma’s Athens location.

Dr. Patel will join Dr. Steven Gottlieb and the Athens care team, expanding access to specialty care in Northeast Georgia to patients with allergic and immunologic conditions. Dr. Patel will see patients of all ages for the diagnosis and treatment of allergic rhinitis/hay fever, food allergies, asthma, drug allergies, insect sting allergies, urticaria/hives, and sinusitis. In addition, she will evaluate and manage pediatric and adult patients with primary and secondary immunodeficiencies.

“Dr. Patel has the knowledge, skill, passion, and compassion we look for in physicians,” says Dr. David Tanner, Chief Medical Officer of Atlanta Allergy & Asthma. “She will make a fantastic addition to the Athens team and the practice as a whole.”

Dr. Patel’s interest in global health led her to pursue an accelerated, combined pre-med and Doctor of Medicine program at Avalon University School of Medicine in Netherland Antilles, where she graduated summa cum laude. Thereafter, she completed her internal medicine residency training at Baton Rouge General Medical Center/Tulane University School of Medicine in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She completed her Allergy and Immunology fellowship training at a well-respected allergy and primary immunodeficiency center, the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in Uniondale, New York. Since completing her fellowship, she has practiced in Massachusetts at Berkshire Allergy Care, a satellite clinic for fellows-in-training at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, and most recently at St. Mary’s Allergy Specialists in Athens, Georgia.

“I’m thrilled to start the next chapter of my career with one of the leading allergy, asthma, and immunology practices in the Southeast,” Dr. Patel says. “The Athens community means a great deal to me and my family and joining Atlanta Allergy & Asthma will allow me to continue my mission to provide the best possible care to patients in Northeast Georgia.”

Dr. Patel’s career has been geared towards practicing evidence-based medicine, actively publishing in numerous peer-reviewed journals and books, and educating future allergists and immunologists. She is a member of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and the Clinical Immunology Society.

Dr. Patel will begin seeing patients in Athens in September 2023. The office is located at 1242 Virgil Langford Road, Watkinsville.
