Do you think you might be struggling with allergies?

Allergy Diagnosis

The first step in treating allergies is an accurate diagnosis. If you have symptoms when you are outdoors, you might have a pollen allergy (allergic to tree, grass and/or weed pollen), or airborne mold spores. If your symptoms are worse when indoors, you might be allergic to dust mites, pet dander, or cockroaches. Many people have both indoor and outdoor allergies. Your allergists will take a thorough medical and symptom history, perform a physical exam, and suggest appropriate testing.

Allergy Testing

Identifying the cause of your symptoms through allergy testing allows your allergist to effectively treat you. An allergy skin test is the gold standard for identifying allergic triggers. This simple in-office procedure introduces a very small amount of a specific allergen or allergens selected by the allergist based on your medical history (such as pollens, dust mite, animal dander, mold, and/or foods). The allergen is introduced through an indention or “prick” on the surface of the skin. Following the skin prick test, some patients may also receive intradermal skin testing. The results are available within minutes allowing your allergist to develop a treatment plan during your visit. When indicated, our allergists may also employ blood tests or oral challenges.

Allergy Treatments

Once the source of your symptoms have been accurately identified, the specialists at Atlanta Allergy & Asthma will develop a customized treatment plan which may include environmental control measures, over-the-counter and prescription medications, or allergy immunotherapy.

Identifying and treating your allergies not only allows you to breathe easier, it can also improve sleep quality, mitigate sinus issues, and reduce asthma exacerbations. Taking control of your allergies can significantly improve your quality of life!
