Nine physicians from Atlanta Allergy & Asthma — the largest allergy practice in Georgia — rank among metro Atlanta’s Top Doctors in Atlanta magazine’s July issue. Atlanta Allergy & Asthma allergists consistently appear on the list, which annually honors notable physicians among the area’s healthcare landscape.
Those physicians are: Drs. Stanley M. Fineman, Erinn T. Gardner, Linda D. Guydon, Lily G. Hwang, Keith I. Lenchner, Kevin L. Schaffer, Kathleen A. Sheerin, Howard J. Silk, and David D. Tanner. Nearly half of the recipients in the allergy/immunology category come from this one practice.
Atlanta magazine creates its list from a roster of doctors selected by Professional Research Service’s (PRS) database. A total of 1,098 physicians appear on the publication’s 2022 list. These doctors represent the following counties in Georgia: Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, and Rockdale. PRS creates its list by conducting an online peer-review survey of physicians in the metro Atlanta area. Physicians are asked to nominate fellow physicians they deem the best in their field of practice. Many votes were cast honoring excellence in all fields of medicine. The featured doctors were screened and selected through the verification of licensing and review of any infractions through applicable boards, agencies, and rating services.
Dr. Tanner, who serves as Medical Director for the practice, says the annual Atlanta magazine Top Doctors recognition continues to be a great indicator for Atlanta Allergy & Asthma.

Dr. Stanley M. Fineman practices at Atlanta Allergy & Asthma’s East Cobb and Kennestone offices. Dr. Fineman has been in private allergy practice for more than 40 years. After earning his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Fineman completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati. Additionally, Dr. Fineman completed his fellowship in allergy and immunology at Harvard University School of Medicine. Dr. Fineman is board certified by the American Board of Allergy & Immunology. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has held leadership positions with several national and international allergy organizations. Dr. Fineman also earned an MBA from Kennesaw State University and is a frequent lecturer at regional, national, and international medical meetings. Erinn T. Gardner, MD
Dr. Erinn T. Gardner practices at Atlanta Allergy & Asthma’s Canton and Douglasville offices. After earning her bachelor's degree from Spelman College, Dr. Gardner received her medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University and her fellowship in allergy and immunology at Northwestern University and Northwestern University Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Howard J. Silk, MD

David D. Tanner, MD
Dr. David D. Tanner practices at Atlanta Allergy & Asthma’s Buckhead and Johns Creek offices. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia, Dr. Tanner received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University. He completed his internship and residency at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, an affiliate of Washington University. Dr. Tanner became the chief resident of St. Louis Children’s Hospital while completing a fellowship in ambulatory pediatrics. He completed another fellowship in allergy, asthma, and immunology at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Tanner is certified by the American Board of Allergy & Immunology and the American Board of Pediatrics. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.
